by William Steinigans (1610-) One of the pioneer cartoonists in the Joseph Pulitzer bullpen was William Steinigans.   During the era when Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst warred over the contents of the sunday comics,  Steinigans was called upon to copy the  'Little Nemo' sleeping child formula with 'The Bad Dream that made Bill a better boy'.  He took over the title only a couple of months after it's creation by Gene Carr.  For almost 7 years Steinigans did his best to provide an alternative to Winsor McCay's classic.  'Nemo' was a whimsical journey that had control of a full-page for its fabulous artwork.  Steinigans' version was focused on lessons learned and was rarely given that much space.    This was far from the only contribution by Steinigans.   Like many of the Pulitzer cartoonists,  Steinigans also drew a number of short-run gag titles including 'Pups' and 'Mr. Hubby'.  The market for Steinigans work doesn't quite rival Pulitzer's stalwarts like George McManus and Gene Carr, however his 'Bill' strip is somewhat hard to keep in stock at moderate premium.
