Batman (...and Robin) by Bob Kane & Bill Finger (0070-) 1st Sunday November 7, 1943 -   The Success of Superman in the newspapers gave DC/National the courage to try an expansion into more of their superhero characters during the War years.   The next logical hero for them to debut was Batman.  Created by Bob Kane for the comics in the late 1930's, Batman's debut in the newspapers wouldn't come until late 1943 when both a daily and sunday version were introduced.   Batman was billed as the world's greatest Detective, much due to his original debut in the comic books which occurred in Detective Comics.   The newspaper version of Batman stayed close to the formula of the comics,  Superhero action against colorful villains.   Baddies like the Joker, Two-Face, and The Penguin would appear in the newspaper version just like they did in the comic books.  Robin joined in on the action as well to keep the odds on the favor of justice.  The strip was quite high quality, but didn't get the carraige committments needed to keep it alive past 1946.  Batman would revive in the 1960s with the campy TV show for another stint, but that was also relatively short-lived.   As a result, the supply of Batman strips is short, making it a high premium strip.    When they're available, both dailies and sundays sell very well.
